Biointegrative Design (BinD) Featured on the Cover of Global Challenges!

October 2026

A new Perspective by Aslan Miriyev, “Biointegrative Design (BinD): An Interdisciplinary Paradigm for Sustainable Biohybrid Systems,” has been published in Global Challenges and featured on the cover of its October 2026 issue.

The paper introduces BinD, a new design paradigm that treats biological growth, adaptation, regeneration and degradation as intrinsic variables in the development of biohybrid systems. It proposes an iterative methodology for creating sustainable living machines and explores the implications for manufacturing, applications and interdisciplinary research.

PAI Lab at Northwestern University!

May-September 2026

Our Ph.D. student Yuchen Wang completed a three-month research visit to Prof. Ryan Truby's Robotic Matter Lab at Northwestern University, USA.

The visit was funded by the Crown Family Fellowship and the Israel Innovation Project of Northwestern University, as part of our collaboration on multifunctional materials and architected soft robotic systems.

The collaboration has also resulted in a joint research manuscript submitted for publication in October 2026.

Congratulations to Dr. Sergey Nechausov

July 28, 2024

Congratulations to Dr. Sergey Nechausov - the PAI Lab's 2024 alumnus, on completing 2 fruitful years at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and moving on to Germany to a position at HIPOLE Jena - Helmholtz Institute for Polymers in Energy Applications! Sergey spent the past two years studying multifunctional ionic and mixed ionic-electronic conductivity (MIEC) materials as components of physically intelligent systems. Among other achievements and contributions, Sergey received a competitive Kreitman School Scholarship for Postdoctoral Studies and led the Chemical Engineering Journal (CEJ) paper on 3D-Printable high-mixed-conductivity ionogel composites for soft multifunctional devices (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cej.2024.153759). More great news about our research to come. Thank you, Sergey, for your contributions to our PAI laboratory and research – it was a pleasure to have you in the PAI lab!
